The Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Holcim Morocco Africa was received in audience this Wednesday, October 14, 2020 by the Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana. The two personalities discussed topics related among others to the distribution and marketing of cement.
The hearing between the Minister of trade and the Managing Director of the Lafarge Holcim Morocco Africa Group lasted more than an hour. After welcoming his host and the accompanying delegation, the Minister of Trade expressed his satisfaction with the group at the outset. "Cement is no longer rare, which is not the case with other building materials," said Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana.
For the Minister of trade, the difficult period from 2008 to 2010 when Cement was a rare commodity, is now a distant and sad memory. "We boarded the cement trucks in order to make a good distribution", recalls Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana who also weighed down on the path traveled in order to achieve this result. Happy to see this shortage being relegated to the Greek calendars, the minister of Trade welcomed with its fair value "the Revolution made by the group" which according to him, " is appreciable ".
A revolution that the Chief Executive Officer has put to the credit of the colossal investments made by the group in recent years in order to increase the production capacity of Cimencam, among which, the construction of the plant of Nomayos not far from Yaoundé. 28 billion CFA francs were injected there for an estimated production of almost one million tons per year. "Cimencam will beat its production and sales record thanks to the Nomayos site," said Xavier Saint Martin Tillet. The Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge Holcim Maroc Afrique also took the opportunity to announce other major investments of the structure still with the aim of increasing its offer. This includes the construction of a new factory in Figuil. This site will serve the North as well as neighboring Chad. The important project is valued at 50 billion CFA francs. "Figuil's project is a structuring project," Xavier Tillet revealed. The ultimate goal is to target the African market with the advent of the Intercontinental Free Trade Area (FTA).
With regard to the distribution component, Cimencam has developed a distribution network consisting of 120 companies. "The initiative is important because it aims to switch some companies from informal to formal," said Xavier Tillet.
Created in 2016, Lafarge Holcim Maroc Afrique is a joint venture between the Société Nationale d'investissement and the Lafarge Holcim group with the acquisition of 50% of SCB Lafarge Benin, 54.74% of Cimencam and Lafarge Holcim Côte d'ivoire.
