During a hearing at the Ministry of trade a few days ago, Antonio Pedro (photo), the director of the subregional Office for Central Africa of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), promised to support the Cameroonian government in the perspective of the entry into force of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA), in 2021.
This support, it is learned, should take the form of capacity building of actors. From this perspective, ECA is currently devising a five-year plan, which should enable African countries to better seize the opportunities offered by the AFCFTA.
As a reminder, at the end of 2019, Cameroon validated its own National Implementation Strategy for the AFCFTA. According to the Ministry of economy, this strategy will allow Cameroon to implement certain measures aimed at ensuring that local companies do not undergo the AFCFTA, but take great advantage of the opportunity offered by this free trade area that aims to create a single market of 1.3 billion inhabitants on the continent.
